Lake House Powder Room After Step by Step.

Remember how bad this bathroom was before. It was dark, dingy, and altogether depressing.

New life was breathed into the space by first and foremost removing the wall paper.

Next, the beadboard and floor tiles were primed and painted out a crisp white using floor paint. This paint is made to stand up to the constant wear and tear a floor receives so I would recommend spending the extra money if you decide to paint a floor in your home. After the paint dried for a day or two, a coat of polyurethane was rolled over the floor to increase the durability.

Then a beautiful shade of light blue went on the walls. The color we used was Mild Blue from Sherwin Williams and I'm really pleased with the results. The room doesn't have any natural light, but something about the paint seems to glow.

A great addition to the space was the skirt I added to the sink to hide the ugly exposed plumbing. The skirt looks so custom and therefore expensive, but it was so simple. I made it out of a (clearance!) shower curtain from Target and it only took a few hours. Click here for the tutorial. Once that was done the room was really starting to come together. It just needed the last finishing touches to complete the space. And this is the fun part!

I hunted and hunted for a tall, slim mirror for the space and was about to resort to having a custom mirror cut, when I stumbled upon the perfect framed mirror at an antique shop last weekend. The paint was chipping but with a fresh coat of gold (here's my favorite option) it looks like brand new.

With the new gold mirror, the previously purchased silver towel ring and toilet paper holders no longer worked. I used the same gold paint from the mirror and painted these two out. I love the result and am glad I tried this technique- proof that on very tight budget projects you can make certain things work that you normally would have chalked up as an additional expense. The gold towel ring and white-on-white chevron towel are a favorite detail of mine from the space.

Additional details include a plant in a galvanized bucket and vanilla candle (both Home Goods finds!) resting below a piece of art found at Target for $16.99. You can barely see it in the photo but there is a gold garbage can the client already owned that fits perfectly with the feel of the bathroom.

All and all, a great makeover for a little over $100.
