Happy New Years Eve!

(via Atlanta Bartlett)

What do you have planned for tonight? I'm in Chicago for NYE staying with friends and the sweetest little puppy. Just wanted to post quickly before we head out on an adventure for the day. Be sure to check back starting Monday for some New Years resolutions. Until then, cheers and not too much champagne!

A Little Sparkle Before the New Year.

I'm thinking about using mirror finish in an upcoming client project. These images I stumbled upon during my research were too pretty not to share.

Christmas Table.

This year, I helped my mom decorate the Christmas table. We decided to go pretty simple, but the result was beautiful. One other stipulation: she wanted to use as much of what she already had as possible. (She's moving a few days after the new year, and the less to pack the better!)

I picked up the pine cones, she got some extra white candles, and we used a green table cloth and gold chargers she had. Very affordable and simple, but strengthened by the fact that we ran the same theme all the way down the table. The most common mistake I see is when people place items sporadically down the table or fail to choose one theme and continue it all the way. To create a striking effect, you'll probably need to buy double the amount of centerpiece supplies you think you'll need. This will ensure a full and festive table.

(A fun idea for pine cone placecards)

P.S. This was a day or two before Christmas Eve. Don't worry, we had silverware and glasses the day of the feast :)

Decor Detox.

During the holidays, it's so very easy to adopt the more-is-more attitude. Everything from decor, to food and cocktails, to last minute gift splurges-'tis the season.

The neutral color palate of these rooms is exactly what I needed as the very busy holiday season is winding down. Hope they bring you a little peace and quiet too!

Matchbook: Field Guide to a Charmed Life.

I have been a dedicated reader of the blogs The Neo-traditionalist, Lox Papers, and A Lovely Being for ages now. So imagine my excitement when I read on Katie's blog a few months ago that she, along with Jane and Fallon, would be launching a monthly online publication in January 2011 called Matchbook Magazine.

Matchbook is all about the sweet things in life. The first edition hasn't even launched yet, but I just know it will be oozing with that classic charm these ladies love so much and do so well. As the Matchbook team says,"from lipstick to letterpress, gelato to grosgrain, and Paris to Peru, consider us your field guide to a charmed life." Look at what else they love:

Red ballet flats with tights.

The Kennedys (and stripes).

Vintage cars...

and typewriters...

and books...

and shops...

and of course, vintage matchbooks.

So join me in not-so-patienty awaiting the launch of Matchbook Magazine.

To hold you over until their January launch, be sure to check out their facebook page (with the sweetest quotes updated daily) and their tumblr where you can find more of their favorite things.

Oldies but goodies.

Last night I hung out with some old friends from high school who are in town for the holidays. It was so great to catch up and reminisce over cocktails. The greatest thing about old friends is the easy way you slip back into conversation and the comforts of friendship. Even if we haven't seen each other in a year, within seconds of reuniting it's like nothing ever changed.

So with that in mind, I decided to revisit an old favorite in the shelter publication category. Although Blueprint is no longer with us (RIP sweet magazine), here are a few of my favorite images from its glossy pages.

(Easily my favorite image from Blueprint. I love the graphic nature of these prints. And cheers to finding art in the everyday. Andy Warhol would be proud.)

(Again, simple and ordinary turned fab. Love those red lacquered stumps.)

(Styled to perfection.)

(Pure girlie bliss.)

(Strength in numbers. Love all the vintage fashion mag covers.)

It's a girl!

Just kidding. It's The Pantone 2011 Color of the Year!! Every year Pantone releases their prediction for the up-and-coming color for that year. And sorry boys, but this year it's pink.

This leads the way for everything from fashion to interiors to general consumer products. Don't worry, inspiration board to follow sometime this week.

P.S. Sorry mom, I just had to do it.

and a little champagne.

Thanks to all the support this last year! I couldn't have done it without the constant encouragement from family and friends.

Cheers to an exciting new year filled with fun, adventure, laughter, and of course, design!

Cleveland Christmas: Edition 2.

Wreaths and lights and bows, oh my!

This time around town was just as impressive as my last shoot. Admiring the great decorations people have adorned their homes with makes me so happy and reminds me what this time of year is all about, spreading a little warmth and light (and being cozy with the ones you love). Walking up to these beautiful doors made me smile from ear to ear.

Don't judge a book by it's cover? Well in this case you can. The family who lives here is just as great as their front door : )

Fire engine red. What an exciting welcome home! And uber festive during the holiday season.

That luscious red bow was crying out to be photographed.

The combination of lace and the most perfectly textured white wallpaper in this entry way was such a sweet surprise. This photo doesn't even do it justice.

The pine cone wreath only enhanced this gorgeous home.

As if this door didn't have enough wow-factor, the bay window next to the door had me as giddy as a kid on Christmas. The sheer drapes with twinkling lights shining through truly stopped me dead in my tracks.

Happy Holidays!
